ROSE KAUFMAN - 1939-2009

On a sunny day in 1958, Rose Kaufman met her future husband Philip on Chicago's Midway Plaisance. She was sunbathing, engrossed in a book. He was walking with a friend and couldn't take his eyes off her.

"Being a really cool guy, I asked if we could watch her sunbathe," Kaufman recalled. She replied in the negative. "We sort of slinked off. But two blocks later I doubled back. I had to get to know her."
