Qld: Fallen power lines cut highway on Gold Coast

Fallen powerlines have cut southbound access to the Gold Coast Highway as thousands
of communters head to work.

Police say four or five live powerlines have fallen to the ground, closing all roads
running south through Surfers Paradise.

The closed roads include the Gold Coast Highway southbound, Hamiliton Avenue, Clifford
Street and The Esplanade.

A police spokesman says the roads are expected to remain closed until after 9am, and
motorists are urged to use alternate routes along the Southport/Burleigh Road.

Energex crew are investigating the fallen lines, but it's not known how they fell down.
