Milford police warn of phone scams

MILFORD -- Police are warning residents about a scam in which anelderly woman was told she won $1 million, but needed to wire fundsin order to claim her prize. Police said the elderly residentreceived suspicious phone calls from an unknown male caller.

A name and an overseas address were provided to the resident forthe electronic wire transfer. Police said international criminalgroups use the Internet to obtain telephone numbers of intendedvictims.

Police are reminding citizens to be aware of any unsolicitedphone calls, emails, letters or other forms of contact.

Man tries to lure girl into car

SEYMOUR -- A man in a car approached a middle school girl walkinghome from school Wednesday and tried to get the girl into his car,police said.

According to Lt. Paul Satkowski, the girl was walking home fromschool on Bunting Road, after getting off the school bus Wednesdayafternoon. A man, said to be in his 30's, with medium length brownhair and brown eyes, and driving a small silver or gray car,approached the girl, and motioned for her to get in the car andtried to engage her in conversation.

The girl refused and quickly walked to her home nearby, wherefamily members called police.

Satkowski said anyone who has seen a man fitting the descriptioncan call police at 203-881-7600.

Satkowski said school officials sent out an automated Connect-Edmessage about the incident.

School bus company employees were also made aware of theincident, and told to be on the lookout for anything suspicious.
